PROGRAMME 2021

Saturday 25th September, 2.30 pm

The Spring Arts and Heritage Centre, 56 East Street, Havant PO9 1BS

A Form of Genius: the life and work of Gordon Jacob.

The composer and teacher Gordon Jacob (1895-1984) is chiefly remembered by us for his orchestration of Elgar’s Organ Sonata Op. 28, in response to a suggestion from Adrian Boult. We warmly welcome  Stuart Freed, the new National Chair of The Elgar Society and former Chair of Southern Branch, to speak about this multi-talented but under-valued musician.

Covid-19 precautions:

To safeguard those attending we will be encouraging the wearing of face masks and limiting numbers to a maximum of 30 people. Please email our Southern Branch Vice Chair Duncan Eves at dandgeves@btinternet.com to book a place. There will be a brief interval during which the duty manager at The Spring will provide pre-ordered hot and cold drinks.

Kindly note that this meeting commences at a later time than usual.

We look forward to welcoming you!
